Note the tiny blue gear inside the whte one on the side of the speedo. If you look at the original-size photo, you can see that it's shedding teeth.

This is actually an F150 diagram, so it doesn't have the vacuum switch that some car columns have, but otherwise, it's identical. To align the shifter, shift lever, & shift indicator, read this caption:

The bright yellow wire is from the clock spring. Bright yellow wiring covers are an industry standard to indicate SRS (airbag) wiring.
